1) A genre of literature that combines elements of both horror and romance.

2) Prominent features of gothic fiction include terror), mystery, the supernatural, ghosts, haunted houses and Gothic architecture, castles, darkness, death, decay, doubles, madness, secrets and hereditary curses.

3) The stock characters of gothic fiction include tyrants, villains, bandits, maniacs, Byronic heroes, persecuted maidens, femmes fatales, madwomen, magicians, vampires, werewolves, monsters, demons, revenants, ghosts, perambulating skeletons, the Wandering Jew and the Devil himself.

4) Important ideas concerning and regarding the Gothic include: Anti-Catholicism, especially criticism of Roman Catholic excesses such as the Inquisition (in southern European countries such as Italy and Spain); romanticism of an ancient Medieval past; melodrama; and parody (including self-parody).

5) The term “Gothic” came to be applied to the literary genre precisely because the genre dealt with such emotional extremes and very dark themes, and because it found its most natural settings in the buildings of this style – castles, mansions, and monasteries, often remote, crumbling, and ruined.

Our assignment was to create a blog and

update all of our papers on the blog.

And before creating a blog, we were to

choose a genre from literature and

do research paper and also write a short story

or a poem by yourself using the genre.

My research paper was about Edgar Allan Poe

and how did he end up writing gothic genre and

what made him to do so.

In my creative writing, I wrote about a princess

living in a castle, controlled by

a devil and an angel, because gothic writings

include castles and ghosts in their text.

My name is Joyce Moon.
I’m a Junior going off to Senior year this fall.
I really had fun and had some good memories
in my literature class.
I still remeber the first day I came into the class
because Lit. class was the first class to go on the first
day of school.
I was kind of nervous because I just moved from
Houston. But now, it’s actually one of my favorite
class and one of my favorite teacher.
The first day of school seem just yesterday but
it came down to the last week of the school! LOL
